Idah, Kogi State — A major Truth and Reconciliation Meeting aimed at bringing together the people of Kogi East to address longstanding differences and strengthen peace, unity and development in the region is scheduled to take place at the Ata’s Palace, Idah, Kogi State, on September 19, 2026.

The meeting is expected to provide a platform for the children of Kogi East to come together, engage one another constructively and seek peaceful resolutions to issues that have divided communities and individuals over the years.

Among the matters expected to receive attention are political differences, chieftaincy disputes, land-related matters and other disagreements affecting relationships and peaceful coexistence within the region.

The initiative is being viewed as an opportunity for stakeholders, community leaders, political actors, traditional institutions and other concerned sons and daughters of Kogi East to put aside differences and work towards reconciliation.

The central message of the gathering is that peace must come before progress. By encouraging dialogue, understanding and forgiveness, the meeting seeks to create an atmosphere where longstanding grievances can be addressed without bitterness and where relationships can be rebuilt.

The organisers believe that Kogi East has enormous human, cultural and economic potential, but that sustainable development requires a united and peaceful people.

The Truth and Reconciliation Meeting therefore seeks to promote a new spirit of unity, mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and collective responsibility, with the broader objective of increasing peace and accelerating development across the region.

The gathering at the historic Ata’s Palace in Idah is expected to bring together people from different communities and backgrounds, united by a common desire to see Kogi East become more peaceful, united and prosperous.
